The MIG60 is TIGHT. I can't vouch for other Sovteks. I hate Avatar cabs. They sound and feel cheap. Gimme some standard Marshall 1960 straight cabs any day. Guitar head want list in alphabetical order (which are all on craigslist and ebay but I can't buy cause I put all my money into a new studio space!): Ampeg - VL502/VL1002 Crate - GT50/100 Stealth Crate - Vintage Club VC60H/120H Mesa Boogie - DC-3/DC-5 Metaltronix - M1000 Yamaha - T-50/100 I have a Mesa DC-5. I got it at Atomic about 4 and a half years ago. I've only seen one other person who had this same head.

Pat Vogel, cause we've been talking a little bit about speakers, this is what I've learned from talking to cool dudes and reading on teh internet-
75w speakers in a Marshall are standard, and a great starting point. Vintage 30s have more attack/highs and can sound great in a larger cabinet. Greenbacks have a lot of highs, and sound amazing in a huge cabinet.
Marshall makes a 1960TV, which stands for "Tall, Vintage." This will be the next cabinet I buy.

I love my VL 502, such a good sound and so many features for not a lot of cash. I got mine in Pittsburgh for like $200. There was a VL 1002, the 100 watt version, at a pawn shop in Woodbridge for a while, it may still be there.

james, is that a early Marshall-style kit? Like, similar to a JMP or JTM?
nick, VTMs are *always* on the market.

After playing with this amp for hours these past two nights, the Ampeg VL-502 is the sickest amp I've ever played. The clean channel is only clean up to 3, where it does blues really well. On lower settings, it's the best sparkly clean I've heard on a high-gain amp. After that it's glorious crunchiness that goes into 800 territory. The magic of the clean channel is that when you use this shit with the built-in Power Attenuator and put the master volume really high, the amp oozes fucked-up and broken stoner riffs.
The dirty channel is just fucking psycho. It's too easy to get modded JCM800 sounds, heavy modern mosh, and blazing lead tones. The preamp knob goes PAST 12, and the gain knob goes past 24. Yup, there's a preamp and gain knob. When they're both up, it sounds broken as fuck, and perfect.
If these were more durable (most of these are broken, including some of the functions on mine like the reverb) they'd definitely be as popular as VTMs.

There's no FAC knob, and I've never seen a "boost" knob on an Orange. I mean, it would make sense if it was an Orange copy, but it doesn't match up to anything I've seen.

I'm pretty sure I have to change most of the seven preamp tubes in my amp, as well as the reverb tubes. BUT IT STILL SOUNDS SICK AS FUCK.

New to the thread.
First Act Sheena -> Sunn Coliseum Lead -> Marshall JCM 800 4x12 with G12T75s & Sunn 412L with (2) WGS Green Berets & (2) Celestion Vintage 30s in a zig-zag pattern
Pedals: Boss: TU-2, RV-3, RC-2 Ernie Ball Volume Custom TS-808 Clone and a Malekko Ekko 919 whenever they finally decide to put that motherfucker out.

i really want a sunn coliseum lead! i have the bass but it is broken, and love my concert lead and model t. i love the coliseum lead. my bassist plays the 300, it sounds great too. ive never actually heard the bass though. you have no room to be jealous - youve got a model t! im jealous. i always think of getting another head, but i cant afford it... even if i could i couldnt justify it. im constantly thinking about getting one of the more affordable hype amps like a v4, yba-1, vtm 120, or a mig60
